ABOUT THE FACILITY:
Our new, modern 6000 square foot facility is conveniently located just off the I-40 San Mateo exit, and is easily the largest martial arts facility in New Mexico. Martial Artistry is the only school whose entire training area boasts flooring of high tech 2" thick, closed-cell EVA carpet-bonded foam -- an incredibly comfortable surface and a real investment in the comfort and well-being of the students. A powerful cooling and ventilation system keeps the air fresh, clean and comfortable, even during the most arduous workouts. Multiple bathrooms, a water fountain, and a spacious sport shop add to the pleasure of the training experience.

CLASSES:
Many things make us different from any other martial arts schools, and are directly responsible for the outstanding success of the Martial Artistry program.  Here are just a few a the things that make us special, even unique!

1)  Our instructor to student ratio.  We typically have one instructor per every 3 to 5 students in our regular programs, and one instructor per every 2 to 3 students in our Little Dragons program.  Students often receive individual, one on one instruction, and those with special considerations (injuries, disabilities, past experience in the martial arts) can have the program adjusted to meet their needs.  Each student is an individual, and is treated as such.

2)  Our facility (see above).

3)  Our instructor's training.  Many schools simply throw other students from their classes out on the floor to "teach", with no training whatsoever in educational theory.  Martial Artistry, however, has an Instructor's Certification Program.  Our instructors, instructor's aides, and even our junior instructor's aides are required to take five hours of training every week so they can better serve our students.  Experienced martial artists from all styles and systems enter our certification program to learn how to run a successful school just like Martial Artistry.

4)  Our non-competitive atmosphere.  That's not to say we don't compete.  Some of our students enjoy attending tournaments, and they do very well indeed - we've trained the National Champion in Forms, the National Champion in Weapons, and the National Champion in Fighting.  What makes us special is that our students do not compete with each other.  Our classroom atmosphere is helpful, encouraging and fun.

5)  Our classes are extremely structured.  Our written lesson plans are organized so that students get the most out of every minute of every class, and so that training is consistent and follows a logical, beneficial progression.

CLASS STRUCTURE:

Martial Artistry regular kung fu / wushu classes meet twice a week, for one hour per session.  Beginning students currently have six different classes to choose from, and they can mix and match these classes however they please to make up their two classes a week.

Every class begins with a warm-up, total body stretch, plyometrics (to enhance fast twitch muscle response), and strength work.  Each week, the martial arts training has a different focus.

Week One - Basics Week:

Students concentrate on the building blocks of their art, such as stances, blocks, punches, kicks, proper movement, balance and breath.  More importantly, they learn how to behave in a confident manner, how to be polite, encouraging and kind, and how to both give and earn the respect of themselves and others.

Week Two - Forms Week:

Forms, also known as routines or katas, are choreographed sets of movements, meant to simulate combat with an imaginary opponent or opponents.  Students learn how the various basics flow together.  For many students, this is the most enjoyable part of their training, as the forms in kung fu and wushu are potent, impressive and an excellent full body workout.

Week Three - Self Defense Week:

Students focus on the self-defense aspects of the art.  At the first level, simple percussive techniques are taught.  At the second, students learn joint locks and breaks.  Techniques become gradually more sophisticated, and students will learn how to defend themselves if taken to the ground -- important for everyone, but most especially women.   Martial Artistry is very strict in enforcing the use of these techniques for self defense only.  MARTIAL ARTISTRY AND SIFU KAYNE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE INSTRUCTION TO ANYONE.

Week Four - Review Week:

Students review their lessons for the month, to refresh their memories and to fine tune their technique.  During this week, they are evaluated to see if they are ready to test for the next level.  Which brings us to another thing that makes us unique -- we don't charge testing fees!  That's right, testing is an extra day our students get for free!

Students of the regular classes at Martial Artistry will study both traditional Kung Fu and modern wushu.

TRADITIONAL KUNG FU:

Traditional kung fu is less flamboyant than modern wushu., with fighting applications more obvious and direct.  In the course of their training at Martial Artistry, students will learn some of the traditional forms of Henan Shaolin, Northern Mantis and Shantung Shaolin, as well as animal styles, such as dragon, snake, tiger, leopard, crane and monkey.

MODERN WUSHU:

This is the style that has all the awesome techniques and wild weaponry seen in such movies as THE MATRIX and CROUCHING TIGER - HIDDEN DRAGON.  Without question the most visually exciting martial arts style, modern wushu takes all of the elements of traditional kung fu to the extreme.  Fast, explosive, powerful, this art is also taught as part of the regular curriculum at Martial Artistry.

COST:

You'll meet very few people who will ever say, "Soccer (or baseball, or golf, etc...) turned my life around."  But, just ask any martial artist, and they'll tell you that, with the right instructor, kung fu is a profoundly positive experience, imparting skills far beyond the physical, that enhances all aspects of life.

We're so confident you're going to enjoy training with us, that our first month of training is only $50.00, AND comes with a FREE kung fu uniform.

If our school is not for you, simply walk away.  We do not charge registration fees, sign up fees, testing fees, or shackle you to a contract.  But, if you're pleased with the new-found strength, flexibility and confidence that martial arts gives to its students, young or old, tuition thereafter is only $69.00 a month.  And that includes testing!
