Kung Fu, Wushu, Lion and Dragon Dancing Exhibition |
Saturday June 7, 2003 Rio Rancho, NM First, apologies from the webmistress, as I've not updated "latest news" for over a year. As I try to catch up, touching lightly on our many, many special events, I'll do the best I can to locate lost photos, and remember key happenings. No photos from this event.. |

Kung Fu, Wushu, Lion and Dragon Dancing Exhibition |
Wednesday June 18, 2003 Albuquerque, NM No photos from this exhibition, but with very good reason, as it was at a juvenile detention facility. The audience was most appreciative, and the team did a great job during this Educational Outreach adventure. |

Martial Artistry's Fifth Annual |
Saturday July 19, 2003 Albuquerque, NM Whoo-hoo! Time for our annual get together filled with kung fu, food and fun! First, an exhibition from Martial Artistry's Team Steel Phoenix. Our lion dance team was in fine form, as you can see from this three lion stack (right). |
Not to be outdone, our wushu crew put on a great performance of modern wushu and classical kung fu, including many of the animal styles. Here in this fighting set, Albert Vera (in mid air) plays a snake fist fighter, while Johnathan Padilla plays the praying (preying) mantis stylist. Our Chinese lion, Haoqi, looks on from the background. |
Okay, one more photo of our lions, because the are so photogenic. Baby Haoqi appears to be pouting..
After the show, everyone started to settle in for some major picnicking. Centennial Park at Kirtland Air Force Base is gorgeous, and we always have an awesome time there. Many thanks to the base folks for allowing us to use the park! |

One of the favorite "amusements" at these gatherings is the dunk tank. Here, Sifu clambers into the hot seat. Or should we say wet seat? Poor Sifu. So trusting, so gentle, so dry and comfortable.. |
Students at Martial Artistry are taught respect, honor, discipline, integrity and kindness. Unfortunately, these lessons are wasted upon students like Sparky, who, forgoing the ball-tossing portion of the dunk tank, simply walked up and slapped the dunking mechanism, sending poor, sweet Sifu plunging into the frigid water. Sparky's next of kin request that, in liu of flowers, donations be sent to the "Locate the Pieces of Sparky" fund. |

Oh, ha-ha Alex. Very funny. Some people just have no respect for their elders. |
| Oh yeah. Sure. Come on in, the water's fine.. |
Mr. Baker turns the tables on his would be dunkers. |
(right) See what Sparky
started? Darwin Stender dunks his wife Dorothy while their daughter,
Danielle, cheers him on. Why do we even bother to bring softballs for this thing?
(below) We don't call it the "Wet and Wild Picnic" for nothing. Another popular attraction was the squirt arena, where quite often, little kids with big squirt guns ruled the day. Some even hitched rides for the elevated attack advantage. |

Did I mention little kids with big squirt guns? Look out all you mommies and daddies -- it's payback time! |
| Muahahahaha! Turn about is fair play! Mr. Ruiz gets even with his son, Nolan. |
I'd have to say Wendy Hansen (on the right) is severely lacking in waterpower. It's the little squirts toting the big squirts here. |
Everyone was certainly having a great time getting soaked. Look at those smiles! |
Another popular event was the nerf wars - foam padded weapons and mad melee. The little ones proved especially effective in ninja-smiting. These sneak attacks from behind could fell even the mightiest martial artists, much to the amusement of those on the sidelines. |
Making double, triple, quadruple sure his
opponent isn't just playing possum..
(below) Oh yeah. A good time was had by all. |
