2010 Martial Artistry Shaolin Kung Fu & Chinese Wushu, Albuquerque New Mexico Scrapbook
December 2010
A Sign of the Times...
Gotta love Instructor Ryan McGowan's wicked sense of humor. This year's warning sign (proudly posted along the safety corridor to the bathrooms, fountains and office) was a great follow up to last year's "Girl Kung Fu" mug.

12-10-2010 School Photo Plaques from 2007 - 2010 are FINISHED!
At last! It only took, oh... three years, but the school plaques are finally done. The 2007 and 2008 don't look nearly so awesome as the 2009 and 2010, but I think you'll agree they aren't too hideous - and best of all, from now on they should be done within a week or so after the conclusion of school photos week. Whew!

September 25, Third 2010 State Fair Performance with Martial Artistry's Team Steel Phoenix
Team Steel Phoenix did a total of three performances at the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque. It was the first time in over 10 years that we'd done a "street" performance at the fair, and it was definitely an eye-opener. By and far the street performances turned out to be our favorites, even though we'd also been tapped to do a coveted full Main Stage gig! The crowds for the street performances were HUGE and very demonstrative! We'd purchased a quiet, protable generator just for these shows, which proved to be a lifesaver. So easy, we were able to set up anywhere.
Clips from this performance at the New Mexico State Fair include drunken boxing, praying mantis, dragon, double head spear, pudao, rope dart, staff, war fan, double war fan, nan quan, ditang quan, straight sword, lion dancing, dragon dancing and more.
Our performers for this show were:
Ryan McGowan: staff (gun shu), kung fu basics, wushu straight sword (jian), flag dancing, nan quan (Southern boxing), dragon dancing and praying mantis boxing (tang lang quan).
James "Sparky" Esparza: drunken boxing (zui quan), wushu basics, flag dancing, three-section staff (san jie gun), lion dancing and dragon dancing.
Danielle Hayden: pudao, lion dancing and kung fu basics
Yaoting "Julian" Shelnutt: wushu basics, lion dancing, double head spear (shuang tou qiang), double daggers (shuang bishou), and dragon dancing.
Qiu Yan: kung fu basics, war fan (wu shan or tie shan), lion dance, flag dance, broadsword or saber (dao), dragon dance, and double war fan (shuang wu shan).
Ben Berling: wushu basics, broadsword or saber (dao), whip chain (jie bian), flag dancing, double whip chain (shuang jie bian), ditang quan (ground tumbling boxing), and sheng bian (bull whip).
Brian Baker: wushu basics, rope dart (sen biao), and dragon dance.
Dorothy "The Grey Dragon" Stender: Northern dragon boxing (long quan) and sound.
Jonathan Milton: double daggers (shuang bishou), kung fu basics and dragon dance.
Joel McIntosh: lion dance, wushu basics, war fan (wu shan or tie shan), and dragon dance.
Father Barney Deane: lion dancing, Northern Shaolin boxing, and dragon dancing.
